Religions are by their nature neither phony nor authentic. They represent a set of beliefs. People either believe in them, or they don't. No followers of any religions can prove anything anyway. That's the simple logic behind why our Founding Fathers permitted freedom of conscience, even though at the time our nation was overwhelmingly Protestant Christian. They knew they couldn't, in the spirit of the Enlightenment, simply declare one religion to be true and all the others false, and make it the state religion. If you think the US should be exclusively a Christian nation, then you are much closer to the Communists you say you fear. Many of us don't care if the President is a Christian or not.

Good for him! I just hope for the day when a President will not have to claim a belief in a deity to be elected. It is absurd.

As for Thanksgiving, I am truly thankful for all of the friends and family I was able to spend time with over this years Thanksgiving holiday. While I have no all powerful deity to be thankful to, I am grateful none-the-less.

I was aware that the argument for religion was shaky at best, but I didn't realize we atheists had progressed so much so that there was already a price on our heads. It is somewhat satisfying to see the death throws of irrational thinking, although, I sometimes worry about just how far some of you guys are willing to take things. I have a feeling that more religious extremists will surface as more and more people wake up to reality and stop believing the lie.

Go ahead, have your cross. Heck most churches around here have two or three. Just make sure not to put it somewhere that I helped pay for with tax money. Your church leaders should be getting 10% from you each Sunday. Use that to display your belief in woo.
